Virtual Marathon success for a team of GDA supporters
On Saturday 2nd May, a team of GDA supporters decided to take on the challenge of running the distance of a marathon in under four hours.
But with social distancing rules, surely this wouldn't be possible?
But of course it was, thanks to the wonders of technology... and here's how
Eight runners would each run 3.2 miles from their own homes, adhering to social distancing rules along the way. Once they'd run their 3.2 miles, they 'tag' the next runner by the means of WhatsApp, and so on until the team had completed the 26.2 miles.
The challenge was to complete the distance in less than four hours. Each runner having a different running pace and some battling some serious Cotswold hills. In order to make their time, they'd each need to run just over 3 miles in thirty minutes. So did they do it?
They sure did and not only that, they completed the challenge in 3hrs 40mins - a fantastic 20 minutes quicker than their original target.
The team set out to beat their target time but they also set out to raise money for GDA. To date they've raised a wonderful £542 for the charity!!
Our thanks go to each of the runners who gave up their Saturday morning to do something amazing for GDA, and of course to everyone who got behind them and supported them and GDA along the way.
So, what will you do? Could you take on a virtual challenge for GDA while we're in lockdown?
Charities need your support now more than ever. The charity sector stands to lose £4 billion worth of vital funding, and sadly GDA is no exception.
People living with deafness are at risk of becoming even more isolated as a result of the pandemic situation, and they need GDA's help.
If you'd like to do something amazing for GDA or you'd like to do make a donation to enable us to continue providing vital services such as hearing aid maintenance support, remote interpreting for those who use British Sign Language (BSL) as their first language or creating signed bedtime stories for deaf children and their families so they too can enjoy a virtual activity just like their hearing friends, then please click here to show your support.
