GDA Coronavirus update - 31st March 2020

Watch a BSL video of this update here.

Following the briefing from the government this evening, please see below a round-up of the main points discuss, plus some updates from GDA:

  • Sadly 381 people have died of COVID-19 in the last 24hrs - the biggest daily increase so far. Our thoughts go out to the families who have lost loved ones
  • More NHS staff are returning to the frontline, and more testing is being carried out. Hopes to be carrying out 25,000 tests per day by mid to late April
  • 8,000 ventilators in hospitals across the UK, but we need more. That is why the UK is working with a number of companies such as Mercedes to produce more ventilators.
  • NHS England national medical director Dr Stephen Powis, showed charts which highlight the public are following the rules but we must continue to follow them in order to save lives. Please see below charts.

A reminder about the Facebook live tomorrow at 12pm with Reg, to learn about working in a hearing world. You're also invited to join Yvonne Cobb from BSL College on Thursday 2nd April at 11am for a Q&A and to learn some BSL, and lastly Reg will be back on Saturday night at 7pm for another chat on the sofa.
